Unlikely Drone Uses: Chasing Down Boat Thieves

The Seattle Times’ video above shows footage 14-year-old Christopher Harris took with his DJI Phantom drone of boat thieves escaping with his family’s boat.

ABC News reports that Harris and a friend, visiting a family vacation home on Camano Island, Washington, woke Wednesday morning to find thieves tying up Harris’ boat to their own.

Harris’ use of his drone allowed him to keep up with the thieves for a bit, following them over the water, though eventually they drove out of range of the drone. ABC News reports that the drone footage still helped law enforcement track down where the thieves were headed and they were caught.

Harris’ family is probably pretty glad they gifted the drone to their son! According to The Seattle Times it was a gift for making honor roll. For more details read The Seattle Times and ABC News articles in full.
